Water is Life
Give to fund clean water today!
Today, the people of Ndolwa live an average of 2.5 miles from the nearest clean water source. The task of bringing water home often falls to children, who make the trip multiple times a day, carrying water home by the bucket.
Bringing clean water to the people of Ndolwa will do so much more than ease the burden of drinking water and sanitation — it will allow them to prioritize education for their children, and economic independence for their families.

Your Support Makes a Difference
In the rural, mountainous region of Ndolwa, Same District, having enough clean water to get through a day is one of life’s most persistent challenges. For drinking, cooking, and cleaning, a person needs 20 liters of water a day, which weighs about 45 pounds. In most families, children are responsible for bringing home enough water, bucket by bucket, to get the family through the day, the nearest water source is, on average, a 5-mile round trip. A lack of clean, accessible water doesn’t just impact a family’s health, it takes hours and hours of their time, interfering with education and economic empowerment.
A clean, accessible water source will undeniably change the health and security of this community. But it will also open a door for the men, women, and children whose days are currently structured around clean water. This water project will create a world where they have the time to pursue education, business, and community engagement free of the constant, nagging fear of going thirsty.

Why Ndolwa?
Ndolwa is located in Vudee Ward, a mountainous region of Tanzania with a population of about 4,000 people. It has been marked as the number one priority for engineering development in the Same District.
During Tanzania’s dry seasons, water sources on the surface dry up, and in the mountains, deep, dense bedrock means that traditionally drilled wells will not reach underground water sources. Ndolwa is a vibrant community, but their unique geography requires a unique solution. This is why we’ve partnered with Engineers without Borders to create a sustainable solution to serve the community’s needs.

Our Proposed Plan
“Behind the scenes” work on this project has been extensive! We’ve supported our partners at Engineers Without Borders and RUWASA to conduct multiple surveys, evaluating water sources at different times of year to find a long-term, sustainable plan to ensure clean water access.
The final plan is a gravity-fed system, which pulls water from high points and distributes it down the mountain, storing water in cisterns that will supply the community during slower-flowing dry seasons. [please fact-check Megan on this description.]
Together, we can build a water & sanitation system that serves the people of Ndolwa for 30 years or more — make your gift today!
